The organising team behind the successful classic racing series Equipe GTS – last week released the Entry Forms for competitors looking to take part in their biggest challenge yet – The Equipe 3hr Classic Relay.
The 3 Hour event will take place on Saturday 30 September 2017 at the AMOC Racing event (now run and managed by the Motor Racing Legends team) on the Silverstone National circuit.
Entry criteria for the Classic Relay is for pre ‘66 GT & GTS up to 3 litres and Touring /Saloon cars up to 2 litres. All cars must be running to FIA appendix K and on Dunlop historic tyres.
Team of 2 to 4 cars are invited to join the race, with only one car allowed on track at any time. Team strategy and car or driver changes will play a big part in the results and a handicap system will ensure an exciting close finish and even playing field for all classes.
So far, the event is over 70% subscribed with teams having already signed up to the event covering a wide range of classic racers from mainstream MG, Lotus, Triumph, Healey to Peerless and Tornado Talisman. Team entries also include a number of works teams with period racing history including MGA, Austin Healey, Marcos, MGB, and TVR.
Equipe GTS Partner John Pearson commented: “We launched the Equipe 3hr Classic relay because there is a huge gap in the market for a long distance team event for smaller engined cars. The Birkett Relay is legendary and runs 70 teams each year at Silverstone, but it used to have an eclectic mix of old and new but is now dominated by modern sports racers. The Spa 6 Hours is a fantastic trophy event for historic cars but asking one car to last for 6 hours is a tough call and the race is now dominated by semi professional drivers in GT40’s, Jaguar E Types and Cobras. – Equipe 3hr Classic relay offers the UK’s only pre-66 long distance race.”
