A line-up of Grand Prix cars covering more than a century of competition – gathered together to mark the 90th anniversary of the first-ever British Grand prix – which was the star attraction at this year’s Brooklands Reunion last weekend staged at Brooklands Museum (Sunday 14th August.)
The annual event also featured a huge display of pre-war cars and motorcycles and a two-hour session of demonstrations on the Mercedes-Benz World circuit next-door to the Museum.
The first-ever British Grand Prix was staged at Brooklands on 7th August 1926, with a second event held the following year: these were the only World Championship Grands Prix held in the UK before World War Two, although three non-Championship Donington Grands Prix were held at the Derbyshire circuit in the late 1930s. For those first two races at Brooklands, a circuit of 2.6 miles was used, leaving out the eastern section of the Outer Circuit and with temporary sandbank chicanes installed on the Finishing Straight of the Track.
