A range of iconic road and racing cars is set to be auctioned in the biggest-ever Silverstone Classic sale by auction partners, Silverstone Auctions, from 23-26 July*.

Offered for sale on Saturday 25 July is one of the finest Jaguar XKSS recreations, hand-built by world-renowned Jaguar specialists Lynx Motors. Finished in Gloss Black with contrasting Jaguar Red interior, the replica is based on a 1969 4.2 Series II E-Type and took over 3,000 man-hours to build.

The car has a freshly rebuilt engine with fast road camshafts and Triple Weber carburettors, giving it 270bhp at 4,500rpm. With only 16 original XKSSs ever made and each car valued at £8million – £10million, demand for high-quality recreations is increasing. The estimate for this exceptional Lynx is £250,000 – £280,000.

Another car with equally iconic status is the Ferrari Dino 246 GT. Values of Dinos have been rising over the last decade and with the announcement of an all-new Dino, that trend shows no signs of stopping.

Going under the hammer on Saturday 25 July is a 1972 example, which was delivered to New York-based Ferrari dealer and North American Racing Team (NART) founder, Luigi Chinetti. This fantastic Dino was imported to the UK in 1988, where it has remained ever since, and after a complete restoration in 1994, has only covered 7,910 miles.

Offered for sale in exceptional condition it retains its original sales invoice, rare factory warranty card, owner’s handbook, tool kit, jack and bag. The car has been freshly prepared by a Swissvax Authorised Detailer and comes with a fresh MOT from March 2015, carrying an estimate of £240,000 – £280,000.

Offered from a private collection, by one of Italy’s most successful racing drivers, Piercarlo Ghinzani, is a selection of some of his most important Formula 1 and Formula 3 racers. The cars, which form the basis for the inaugural Competition Car Sale, will be auctioned on the evening of Thursday 23 July.

The collection incudes a 1977 March Toyota Formula 3 car, which was used to win the Formula 3 Championship, beating many famous drivers, including Nelson Piquet. The car will be auctioned for an estimate of £45,000 – £55,000. Joining it is another 1979 March Toyota, which was used in the 1979 Italian Formula 3 Championship. Ghinzani won the overall championship in this very car and also selected rounds of the European F3 series. The car has an estimate of £40,000 – £48,000.

Other cars from the collection include some of Ghinzani’s F1 stars. A 1983 Osella-Alfa Romeo, raced in the Formula 1 World Championship, is also offered for sale in a recently restored condition; it has an estimate of £100,000 – £125,000. A 1985 Benetton Toleman will also be auctioned, with an estimate of £35,000 – £45,000.

Finally, a 1986 Osella-Alfa Romeo, which was raced for the complete 1986 season carries and estimate of £60,000 – £70,000. Complete with a history file including rebuild documentation, much of which took place in the Alfa Romeo factory, it is a unique opportunity to purchase a piece of racing history.
